Terms of Service
Last updated: [DATE] Β· [COMPANY] ("we", "us").
1. What LegacyMap is
LegacyMap is a tool to map where your assets are and guide your family to them. It is an organizer and pointer β it is not a password manager, a law firm, a financial advisor, or an executor service, and it does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice. Consult a qualified professional for estate planning.
2. Your passphrase and recovery key
Your map is end-to-end encrypted. We cannot see it and cannot reset your passphrase. You are responsible for keeping your passphrase and recovery key safe. If you lose both, your map cannot be recovered by anyone. Keep an exported backup and a printed copy where appropriate.
3. Lockers and credentials
LegacyMap never stores the logins to your accounts. You are responsible for storing those in a password manager ("locker") and for configuring that provider's emergency-access or legacy-contact feature. LegacyMap only records which locker holds the keys and guides your heir to it.
4. Inheritance / emergency access
The heir feature lets you designate a person who, after a waiting period you set, can decrypt the map you shared with them. You are responsible for choosing a trustworthy heir and for the accuracy of your map. We provide the mechanism on an as-is basis and do not guarantee delivery, timing, or that any third-party institution or password manager will grant access. LegacyMap does not transfer legal title to any asset.
5. Affiliate relationships
We participate in affiliate programs with password-manager providers. When you sign up through our links we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We aim to recommend honestly, but you should evaluate any provider yourself.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use LegacyMap unlawfully, don't attempt to breach its security or other users' data, and only map assets and designate heirs that you are entitled to. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.
7. As-is; no warranty; limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, [COMPANY] is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost access, or an heir's inability to reach an asset. This is an early-stage product; do not rely on it as your sole record.
8. Changes & termination
We may update these terms and will post changes here. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Template only; not legal advice. Have counsel review before you rely on this.
